Julie was little bit nervous. Dixie had asked to meet her at a local restaurant which wasn't something she commonly did. Usually, they had all of their chats drinking coffee outside of the bookstore. But today, they had closed a little early to do inventory and then Dixie had asked to meet her later for an early supper.

As she sat by the water, sipping on her sweet tea and munching on bread, she stared out at a group of birds flying overhead. This place was magical. All of the wildlife, the scenery and even the people made her feel like it was the one thing she had been missing her whole life.

She turned to see Dixie walking up to the table, a broad smile on her face. She seemed to have been doing better in recent days, especially since the doctor had changed her sleep medicine. Not only was she sleeping better, but she said her memory was improving. Julie hoped she was right about that.

"Hey there!" Dixie said as she sat down. The waitress immediately walked over and took her drink order before disappearing into the building.

"Hello, yourself. Don't you look pretty this evening?" Julie said. Dixie had changed clothes and was wearing a pair of red flowy pants and a lightweight black cardigan. Of course, she also had on all of her requisite jewelry. Dixie was a sharp dresser and didn't care what anybody thought about her sense of style.

"Thank you. I'm actually going to a book club meeting tonight. I haven't been to one in so many months, and I miss some of my old lady friends."

"You're not an old lady!" Julie said, waving her hand.

"Oh, yes I am. And I'm okay with it. I don't say that as a put down. I like being old. People think I'm wise, even if I’m not."

"Well, I think you're pretty wise. But I am a little curious as to why you invited me here tonight, especially if you have someplace else you need to be.

"I have something important I wanted to talk to you about, and I wanted to make sure we didn't get interrupted."

"Okay. You're scaring me a little bit.”

"No, I think this is a good thing. "

"All right, what's going on?"

Dixie took in a deep breath, leaned down and pulled some papers out of her large handbag.

"I spoke with my attorney yesterday. He drew up some papers for me. Having Parkinson's, it has made me think more about my business and what I'm going to leave behind one day."

"Don't talk like that, Dixie. The doctor said you're going to have a long, productive life."

"And I believe I am. You can't squash an old bird like me!"

"I like how you think, even though I don't like the picture of someone squashing a bird."

Dixie cackled, which warmed Julie's heart. She has been so sad in recent days, but her emotional state seemed to be getting better. "Anyway, you've become like a daughter to me. And you know how to run the bookstore almost better than I do.
